A new 9,650 m² area facility consisting of three new all season ice pads, connection to the existing Potvin arena ice pad, public locker rooms and showers, with coaches offices, meeting rooms, tack shop, administration support offices, fitness training facility, classrooms and association offices, a full restaurant upstairs with a separate canteen at ice level, as well as upstairs and downstairs rental spaces.
Engineering services included concept, design, construction document production and construction review of the mechanical & electrical systems.
The project has achieved LEED NC Certified with an energy efficiency 31% better efficiency than the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB) reference building.
Sustainable features of the facility included site location and proximity to public transportation, low flow metered faucets & showers, high IAQ performance, energy recovery and third party commissioning.
Key energy efficiency measures include high efficiency heating boilers and domestic hot water heaters; energy recovery in locker room make-up air unit; heat recovery from arena chiller plant that is used for rink slab heating, snow melting, domestic and zamboni water preheat and preheat of locker room make-up air unit; demand control ventilation in office air handling unit; low-e arena ceilings and walls; and high efficiency lighting system.
